Jumped up using the feather and hover boots, then opened the chest while in the air.
The item still falls onto the floor where Link would have been, though. o_O

Here's the game-breaking part. Link leaves the room and returns...

...and the item is gone forever, because ZC saves the "opened chest" state.
Luckily, in this case, nothing important was in the chest, as this is just a test dungeon...but imagine if it was an item needed to finish the current dungeon in a real quest, and possibly used later in the quest as well, like the hookshot or hammer. O_O

This all could be easily fixed, though, by simply not allowing Link to open chests while airborne. 😛

how does this make it unbeatable? does the item appear on a layer you cant jump to? why cant you open a chest and get the item? all you talk about is jumpnig and opening it and walking away and coming back... thats normal behavior for not jumping too.

opening a chest and leaving the screen keeps the chest open... this is standard... if you open a chest then normally your able to access the item within it too.

You permanently lose access to the item, as if you had already taken it.
If there's only one of that item in the quest, and you need it to beat the quest, well...

franpa wrote:does the item appear on a layer you cant jump to?
Not that I can tell. <_<

franpa wrote:why cant you open a chest and get the item?
Because it's already open, and you can't open a chest twice. 😛
(...At least not without closing it again, which ZC doesn't do.)

No, it isn't.
The item spawns at the exact spot on the ground where Link is, so you would get it immediately if you were on the ground at the time. There's no way to avoid getting the item if you open the chest on the ground.

Keeping the chest open, yes.
Not leaving the not-yet-taken item in said chest, no.
(Which shouldn't happen in the first place. Because you should either unavoidably get the item as soon as the chest opens--which is the case if you open it on the ground--or not be allowed to open it if you're not on the ground. (Or at least, not lined up with it height-wise. But combos don't have a height variable, so...))

Normally, yes.
But opening a chest that's on the ground, while you are in the air a block-and-a-half above it, isn't exactly normal. 😛

Seems to me that an item should come back when Link re enters the room.
Once an item is given it should remain there until Link takes it, for example if it were bombs, he should be able to return there latter in the game to grab a stash he left there earlier.

The regular items still do come back in ZC, as they did in the original NES game.

This instance is a "treasure chest" combo type, therefore using the "armos -> item" flag and the item used for a "special item" room type. But the "special item"s also stay, both in ZC and the NES game.

The problem here is the initial state of the chest combo itself:
- Link opening the chest is the trigger to make the special item appear.
- When opened on the ground, the chest normally puts the special item right on top of Link, so that he immediately collects it.
- But when the chest is opened in the air, the item appears where Link would have been if he were still on the ground, and he won't collect it until he lands, making it possible to avoid collecting it if you move Link away from it before he lands.
- But ZC saves the "opened chest" state for each room. Upon leaving and returning, the special item is still not picked up, so it's still there, invisible and uncollectable, waiting to be triggered by opening the chest...but it never shows again, because the chest is now permanently open already as soon as you enter, and it only appears when Link himself triggers the opening of the chest.

Yea, I guess you're right.
Otherwise if Link moved an Armos, and didn't collect, it wouldn't be covered by the armos when he returned later.
So it would need to stay that way.

The 2.11 ver is very usfull but but how do I make srtrings acivate only when you walk up to a person like on tortuge by=freedom

yes, but still, i question why someone would open a chest and NOT get the item? who would be dumb enough to NOT get the item that would clearly be accessible if you have access to the chest?

why make an item appear that you can easily grab if your gona not grab it and walk out of the room?

Didn't you read my example above?
IF it's an item like bombs that they DO NOT need now, but want to come back for later, or maybe another magic shield that they bought but might lose from a like like, or maybe it's rupees and they are maxed out at the moment.
and... in Hypercrash's example above he couldn't get the item because of the blocks.

well freedom, i thought someone said the item appears under you thus you get it the instant you open the chest... so why would the item appear somewhere that your not?

- When opened on the ground, the chest normally puts the special item right on top of Link, so that he immediately collects it.

just enable this behavior for opening a chest while in the air. (except place it on the ground under link.)
