Format Change?

mrz84 asked a question about the format in the original thread that generated an idea. (Visit the thread, there's a new poll there also.)

For rounds 50-100, instead of the hints system, should we attempt a yes/no 20 questions type system? Basically, a user could ask a question but couldn't post another question until another user asked a question first.

Example: Round 50 -- ZC

Member A - Is it the name of a quest?
ST - No.
Member B - Is it an item from the game?
c-a-d - No.
User A or C - Is it a developer?
c-a-d - Yes.

Reasons to try new format:

1. To prevent staleness.
2. Activity other than myself and ST posting hints.
3. Prevents myself and ST from having to dedicate so much time to making hints themselves.

This change is in no way permanent. We can revert back to the other format if the new way doesn't seem to work or to change things up again. Or, we can try new formats, again to keep things fresh.

Questions, comments, concerns?

Why not try both? Keep the original for the Triforce Quest and use my 20 questions idead for another game with a different image reward? Also, yay! I generated an idea!

Or Just use both for Triforce Quest in an alternating pattern.

That's what I was thinking. Of course, there are probably other formats we can use too. If anybody has any ideas, we're listening.

Even rounds - Questions. Odd rounds - Hints.

It'll give the new format a chance to be tried while keeping the original one active.

If people want to structure things like that, that's possible. Would you all imagine, hypothetically, that things would become too simple if both hints and questions were enabled for every topic?

I would suggest that you give an initial hint when the thread is first posted, so that anybody who comes across it before the first question is answered at least has something to go on.

I agree with that, quite certainly. Some of these are incredibly obscure. Even while I was making that Baldur's Gate question, I was mentally thinking "Oh god, how are people going to get this one unless they've played it?"

I was able to get that one through internet searching. I knew the forward/backward name had to be a trope of some kind, it just took me a while to find the right one. When I did, the examples led me to the answer. On the 80's hair metal one I was sure the song was the key, and I knew he wrote it about his girlfriend, but I just didn't pick up that she would be the answer. So it's not always about knowing the material.
